PRAYER

Today we remember St. Anthony of the Desert who lived in the 4th century. He was one of the Desert Fathers--monks who lived in the desert in Egypt.  He had been wealthy, but when his parents died he decided he wanted to live the life of the apostles, so he sold everything and became a follower of Christ.  He lived a life of fasting, prayer and labor.  When he heard of holy people, he would visit them to learn their virtuous way of life.

Dearest Jesus, we ask you grace and blessings to be on our teachers and students today during the first day of exams. May everyone stay focused and work hard, and may their memories be clear and free from worry.  Holy Spirit, continue to encourage and guide them and relieve all anxiety.  St. Anthony, pray for us.  All Saints, pray for us.  Amen

PRAYER

Today we remember St. Priscilla of Rome who lived in the first century. Priscilla was an assistant to St. Peter, and her home was his headquarters. She and her husband had great wealth and owned land which used to be a quarry.  When her husband, a Roman politician, was put to death because he refused to worship pagan gods since he was a Christian, Priscilla buried him in the old quarry and that began the burial place of many other Christians martyred for their faith.  That area is known as the Catacombs of Priscilla.  St. Priscilla was also martyred because of her faith in Jesus.

Lord, we look ahead to this week. We pray for all of our students that will be testing this week.  Help them focus in their studies as they ready themselves for exams.  We pray that our students exhibit virtues of honesty and integrity as they take their tests.  We pray for our teachers as they make final preparations on the tests and as they grade them.  St. Priscilla, pray for us.  All Saints, pray for us.  Amen

PRAYER

Today we remember St. Arnold Janssen who lived in the 19th century and was born in Germany. He became a priest and served as a school teacher. He had the heart for mission work and a great devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  He began a magazine called The Little Messenger of the Sacred Heart which spoke about all of the Church's mission efforts.  During St. Arnold's time, many priests were being driven out of Germany, and he suggested they serve as missionaries. With that idea he founded the Divine Word Missionaries.  Now there are more than 6,000 members in 63 countries!        Please stand for the prayer and pledge.

Lord, sometimes I don't think I can make a difference as one person, but then I look at what St. Arnold and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. accomplished with your guidance in prayer, and I realize I can become stronger and more courageous in my dependence and relationship with you. Help me Lord make a stand for the things that are true and just.  Help me find ways to seek to do for others and NOT to expect something in return.  St. Arnold, pray for us.  All Saints, pray for us.  Amen

Lord, today we give thanks to you for our godparents: those who stood with our families when we were baptized, welcomed us into the faith and pray for us even though we may not be aware of it.  Bless our godparents, living on this earth or in eternal life.  St. Hyginus, pray for us.  All Saints, pray for us.  Amen.

Today we remember St. William Bourges who lived in the 12th century. He was born in France and received his uncle, and archdeacon, became his teacher.  He was ordained a priest and then entered a religious monastery which was famous for its strict disciplined lifestyle.  He loved the quiet of the monastic life, but, following obedience, he entered the more public life when he became and Archbishop.  He was devoted to the Blessed Sacrament and died while kneeling saying his prayers. Please stand for the prayer and pledge.

Lord, you have given us so many holy men and women to model our lives and choices after. St. William loved you deeply, especially in the Eucharist.  Many of us received you, Jesus, during Holy Communion at Mass this morning, may we never take the gift of yourself for granted. St. William pray for us.  All Saints, pray for us.  Amen

Today we remember St. Adrian of Canterbury who lived in the 8th century. He was from North Africa.  He was sent to England and became the abbot of St. Augustine's at Canterbury.  This monastery became an important place for learning of Latin, Greek, scripture, theology, math, and other subjects.  After he died, many miracles took place at his burial site.

Holy Spirit, cover us and bring us to the heart of Christ as we get involved in so many events that make us so busy....family, school, work, sports, and clubs to name a few. We get lost in our days, and sometimes it seems we cannot breathe.  May we learn to take a breath.  Holy Spirit, you are "Holy Breath and Life," and we ask that you breathe into us a wind of change for this coming year.  Help us to seek refuge in Jesus, help us to seek his peace and embrace.  St. Adrian, pray for us.  All Saints, pray for us.  Amen
