PRAYER:

Today we remember the 7 Founders of the Servite Order. In the 13th century 7 noblemen from the city of Florence decided to withdraw from public life and live a life of prayer and service, but soon became very popular with visitors.  They then went to the hilly region to be father away from the busy lifestyle of the city.  They became a religious community and some of the members came to the United States in the 19th century, and continue today living a life of prayer in the monastic community as well as serving the greater community.

Help us Lord, to have a servant's heart. When we do a service help us move from a different place in our soul:  rather than it being something we have to do to graduate, may we move to growing in understanding of those we  serve, how we can be a sign of your love to them, and how we will grow in the process.  Help us remove the focus from ourselves and focus on the needs of others.  May those who founded the Servite Order, pray for us.  All Saints, pray for us.  Amen

Today we remember St. Juliana who was born in Turkey in the 3rd century. Her father did not like Christians, so she was secretly baptized.  She was to be married to a pagan but refused unless he converted which angered her father to the point of abuse. Her father denounced her, she was then persecuted and martyred for her faith.

Father, you have given all peoples one common origin.

It is your will that we be gathered together as one family in yourself.

Fill the hearts of mankind with the fire of your love and with the desire to ensure justice for all.

By sharing the good things you give us, may we secure an equality for all our brothers and sisters throughout the world.

May there be an end to division, strife and war.

May there be a dawning of a truly human society built on love and peace. St. Juliana, pray for us. All Saints pray for us.

Today we remember St. Valentine of Rome who lived in the 3rd century. He was a priest and he ministered to Christians who were persecuted and imprisoned for their faith and he was a martyr. One account of his life is that he secretly performed marriages for Christian couples, was put in prison for it and healed the jailer's daughter of blindness which made that entire family convert to Christianity. He is patron saint of love, happy marriages, engaged couples and young people!

God, you are perfect love, and in your heart, may we always live. Forgive us when we choose to move away from your love.  Help us to find our home in you and not be concerned about what the world has to offer.  Thank you for your gift of life, your graces and blessings of this and every day.  St. Valentine, pray for us.  All Saints, pray for us.  Amen

PRAYER:

Today we remember St. Scholastica who lived in 6th century Italy and was the twin sister of St. Benedict. They both felt a divine calling at an early age, entered religious life and began communities near each other.  It is said that at a meeting with her brother, she wanted him to stay longer and he was not able to because of commitments at the monastery, but a thunderstorm came up and he had to stay for a longer while.  She died a few days after that visit.  She is a patron saint for nuns and against lightening, rain and storms.

Lord, we give you praise and thanksgiving! We thank you for your wondrous deeds in our lives.  We hold in prayer today all those who struggle-- with reading, with math, with writing, with understanding, with doubt, with anxiety and with fear.  We know you are here at all times to lead and to guide us.  Holy Spirit, direct us and give us consolation in our times of difficulty.  Help us not to give up.  St. Scholastica, pray for us.  All Saints, pray for us.  Amen
