Today we remember Blessed Anne of St. Bartholomew who lived in the 17th century Spain. She entered the monastery at the age of 21 and became the personal assistant of St. Teresa of Avila.  When St. Teresa died, Anne helped in developing many other monasteries and became the prioress of three of them.  She founded one in the Netherlands where she died.  After her death, there have been over 150 approved miracles attributed to her intercession.

Lord, we are getting closer to the final hours of school. Help us remain focused especially for final exams and please bless our 8th grade class as they celebrate their completion of middle school tonight and keep them safe on their Cedar Point trip tomorrow.  May they know of our well wishes and prayers.  Blessed Anne, pray for us.  All Saints, pray for us.  Amen

PRAYER

Today we remember St. Marcellin Champagnat who lived in the 19th century in France. He was born at the time of the French Revolution, so he was unable to receive a good education.  He entered the seminary at age 16 but struggled with his studies, and he vowed to fight illiteracy.  With a lot of hard work and long hours of study, he was ordained a priest at the age of 27.  He then purchased a house, and started a school which grew into a religious order now called the Marist Brothers, dedicated to the education of youth, especially those in need.  Today there are 5,100 Brothers ministering in over 80 countries!

Lord, there are 3 exams today. Sometimes it can be overwhelming.  But we look at the example of trust and perseverance in St. Marcellin who studied 11 years for the priesthood.  He did not give up, but turned his frustrations with studies into a world wide ministry.  Help us to seek to make a difference, too.  St. Marcellin pray for our students as they seek knowledge and faith.  All Saints, pray for us.  Amen

PRAYER

Today we remember St. Boniface who lived in the 8th century. He was from England, but after becoming a monk he traveled to Germany to evangelize.  Legend has it that during the Christmas season he chopped down a large tree that was used by the pagans for child sacrifice and was it worshiped as a god.  Many people were brought to Christ through this.  Instead of worshiping the tree, Boniface gave them a smaller evergreen tree as a symbol of eternal life in Christ, thus the beginning of the tradition of the Christmas tree.  He was martyred for his faith on Pentecost Sunday.

Lord, we come to you on this last full day of school and we thank you for a wonderful year: our classes, our teachers and friends, our extra activities, but mostly for our faith and being able to express that faith every day.  Help us to grow in faith throughout the summer weeks that are before us, and may we rest and enjoy the days of warmth and sun.  Bless those who will continue to work during the summer to ready the school for the fall, for the teachers who work on lesson plans during their breaks, and for our administration as it prepares a new year.  St. Boniface, pray for us.  All Saints, pray for us.  Amen

PRAYER

Today we remember St. Elmo who lived in the 3rd century. He was an Italian bishop who fled the persecutions of Christians in Rome, but after 7 years was returning to Rome, when he was stopped along the way by Roman soldiers and questioned.  He would not deny his faith so was put into prison, but an angel freed him to continue his journey.  He suffered many tortures in his travels back to his home diocese, and is believed to have been martyred for the faith.  The electrical discharge on ships at sea, known as St. Elmo's Fire is named after him.  He is patron saint of sailors.

Lord, we lift up our baseball team and tennis team to you today as they compete. St. Sebastian, patron saint of athletes, pray for our teams to do their best and be models of Christian behavior on and off the field/court of play.  Keep them safe in their travels and bless their coaches and all who are competing.  St. Elmo, pray for us. All Saints, pray for us.  Amen  Alleluia

PRAYER

Today we remember St. Justin, martyr of the second century. He studied Plato, but soon realized that it was in Christianity where there were better answers to why we are here and what is the meaning of life.  He became the first Christian philosopher. He believed that philosophy brought people to Jesus.  He wrote many essays on this, and because of his writings, he was beheaded in Rome.

God of all life, you have promised us eternal life with you. We know that all things are possible through you. May we be granted the wisdom to apply ourselves completely during this time of final exams and may it bring each of us closer to attaining our dreams.  We pray for all of our students to remain focused and attentive. Holy Spirit, encourage in them integrity in their decisions, discipline in their thinking, and charity in their actions.  St. Justin, pray for us.  All Saints, pray for us.  Amen.  Alleluia
